Of course death is common for all living organisms, it makes us perplexed when occurs unexpectedly. No one knows when the death will come. But if the death comes for an infant, definitely we will be dumbfounded. Sudden infant death syndrome simply called as SIDS is one such a kind. As the name indicates it immediately causes the death in an infant without any symptoms of diseases or any other abnormalities. It usually occurs in a newly born infant or a child whose age is less than twelve months.
Many researches are going on this SIDS, but in vain. Even the medical examination of the child which died because of SIDS, does not reveal any reasons for death. SIDS occurs suddenly and it was found that, SIDS is not the one that existing from the birth or it is not due to the minimal carriage period, which is the time period between conception and birth. Recent studies revealed that infants are more prone to SIDS if their parents are drug addict or if they are born to a teenage mother. After the child birth, if they are not taken care properly, like if they are exposed to smoke, if their weight is not checked SIDS may occur. One of the important causes for SIDS is sleeping positions. The infant used to sleep by back is less prone to SIDS than the one sleeps by stomach. Lack of nutrition is also the cause for infant’s death. However SIDS occurs without any symptoms if the above said causes are avoided the chance of death may be reduced. Some special type beds are available now a days to provide good and healthy sleep for an infants, though the exact preventive method of sudden infant death syndrome was not yet found.
