Local anesthesia used for tumescent liposuction

Liposuctions are done to remove the excess fats that present inside the body. In liposuctions removal of fats are achieved by surgery. The advancement in liposuctions techniques lead to tumescent liposuction where the removal fat is by swelling process. Almost in all liposuctions anesthesia is needed. Generally in surgeries both general and local anesthetics are used but in tumescent liposuctions local anesthetics are used widely.
Usage of local anesthetic was not accepted by the surgeons initially. But after finding the adverse effects of general anesthesia, surgery using local anesthesia were considered as the safest. If general anesthesia is used then the patient became totally unconscious. This increases the risk of surgery. Also the patient will get conscious only after a very long time. If the person failed to recover means then it is also a great problem. Usage of general anesthesia also requires post surgical treatment which involves huge cost. But for tumescent liposuction local anesthesia is enough. Hence local anesthesias which are of low cost are used. Also by using local anesthesia constant conscious of patients are maintained. Hence surgical risks are reduced. Also local anesthesia doesn’t require any post surgical treatments because the patients are not losing their conscious by this technique. Hence local anesthesia is widely preferred if the area of surgery is very less. Local anesthesia is taken by the patient either orally or through veins. But if large area of fat tissue is to be removed then general anesthesia is used though it has greater risk.
